Out-of-Province & Imported Vehicles
Follow these steps to register a vehicle in Alberta that was previously registered in another province or imported into Canada.
Registration Process
- Request an Inspection: Bring your identification and proof of ownership (e.g., Bill of Sale, previous registration, or title) to our office. We will issue an Out of Province Inspection Request form.
- Complete the Inspection: Take the request form to a mechanic authorized to perform out-of-province inspections. You can find a list of approved mechanics here. The mechanic will provide you with a green inspection certificate upon successful completion. This certificate is only valid for 14 days.
- Get Alberta Insurance: Obtain proof of valid Alberta insurance for the vehicle. Unless your current policy is inter-provincial, you will need a new one from an Alberta provider.
-
Register Your Vehicle: Return to our office with all your documents to complete the registration. You will need:
- The green inspection certificate.
- Your driver's license.
- Your proof of ownership.
- Your proof of Alberta insurance.
- The white copy of the import form (if applicable).
