Out-of-Province & Imported Vehicles

Follow these steps to register a vehicle in Alberta that was previously registered in another province or imported into Canada.

Registration Process

  1. Request an Inspection: Bring your identification and proof of ownership (e.g., Bill of Sale, previous registration, or title) to our office. We will issue an Out of Province Inspection Request form.
  2. Complete the Inspection: Take the request form to a mechanic authorized to perform out-of-province inspections. You can find a list of approved mechanics here. The mechanic will provide you with a green inspection certificate upon successful completion. This certificate is only valid for 14 days.
  3. Get Alberta Insurance: Obtain proof of valid Alberta insurance for the vehicle. Unless your current policy is inter-provincial, you will need a new one from an Alberta provider.
  4. Register Your Vehicle: Return to our office with all your documents to complete the registration. You will need:
    • The green inspection certificate.
    • Your driver's license.
    • Your proof of ownership.
    • Your proof of Alberta insurance.
    • The white copy of the import form (if applicable).
